I’d like to thank a gentleman named William K whose postings (at http://mvn.com/milb-diamondbacks/) have finally given me some off-season information to share with you concerning our Sidewinders. William’s “Baby Backs” reports go into details about all the major D-Back prospects, but I’ll focus on (and highlight) only those Sidewinders out there at work. Be forewarned, my friends, there’s not a lot of good news out there so far!
Greg Smith. Is playing for the Scottsdale Scorpions in the Arizona Fall League (which kicked off play on Oct 9th). Greg has pitched in two games and has yet to record a win. His Fall ERA is currently at 5.40.
Randy Choate. Playing for the Aguilas Cibaenas in the Dominican League (began play a couple days ago). He has pitched in 2/3 of an inning and his ERA is 13.50.
Jamie D’Antona. Also playing in the Dominican League, but for the Gigantes del Cibao. He’s 2-8 with one RBI, one error, and a .250 average.
Evan MacLane. Pitching in the Venezuelan League (which has been underway for a week) for the Bravos de Margarita, E-Mac went 1 2/3 innings in one game, surrendering three runs, for an 13.50 ERA.
D.J. Carrasco. Is also hurling in the Venezuelan League, but for the Tiburones de La Guaira. D.J. has pitched 3 1/3 innings in one game, gave up no earned runs (on five hits) for an ERA of 0.00.
Carlos Gonzalez. This late-season addition to the Sidewinders OF is playing in the Venezuelan League for the Aguilas de Zulia. Carlos is 2-18 for a .111 batting average.
Alex Romero. Alex is also struggling in the Venezuelan League, for the Tigres de Aragua. Alex is 1-24 with a run-scored. His batting average is .042.
A glance at the Sidewinders roster today indicates a fair number of other changes (the pitching staff, especially, appears to be significantly depleted). I’m trying to track down information to help fill in those gaps and will share what I can find.
Check back everso often in the off-season for transaction updates and other news effecting our Winders! And don’t forget, the Sidewinder’s 2008 season will begin at TEP on April 3rd…be sure to mark your calendars now for next season’s kickoff!
